How Backoffice fits together

A clear accounting routine, with a team behind it

Start with a review of the Marlin file, agree the service level, then keep the accounts and monthly reporting moving. Level 2 adds payroll to the Level 1 accounting service.

Or see the full feature list

01 / Getting started

Begin with the position of the accounts today

The opening review looks at the Marlin file, including stock, bank, customer and supplier balances and the general ledger. Agree what needs attention and how the ongoing service will work before moving into the regular routine.

Review the records
Look at the accounting file and its current balances.
Agree the responsibilities
Clarify what the workshop supplies and what the service handles.
Choose the level
Start with Level 1 accounting, or add Level 2 payroll.
File review → agreed work → ongoing routine

02 / Level 1 accounting

Keep the customer, supplier and bank records in step

Level 1 covers accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliation, journals and the general ledger close. The service works in the Marlin records that the workshop uses, with review and follow-up around the transactions.

Payables and receivables
Work through supplier and customer accounting records.
Bank reconciliation
Match bank activity and investigate outstanding entries.
Ledger and period close
Process journals and review the general ledger.
Accounts → bank reconciliation → period close

03 / Reporting & review

Finish the month with accounts you can discuss

The monthly routine includes BAS checking and management reporting. Use the review to understand the accounting position and the items that still need action from your business.

BAS checks
Review the relevant accounting records as part of the service.
Monthly reporting
Receive the management reporting included in the agreed scope.
Discuss the result
Work through outstanding items with the team.
Period close → BAS checks → monthly report

04 / Level 2 payroll

Add a payroll routine to the accounting service

Level 2 includes Level 1 and adds Marlin HR payroll work: timesheets, pay runs, payslips, banking journals and superannuation processing. Agree the information, approvals and timing the team needs to run it.

Hours and pay runs
Work from the supplied timesheets and approved payroll information.
Payroll outputs
Prepare payslips and the banking journals.
Superannuation
Include super processing within the agreed payroll scope.
Timesheets → pay run → payroll outputs
